If you are recently divorced, a widow, or a single mom dating can be difficult and it may be hard to find a guy that will want to be a father figure for your children. It’s always difficult to tell the men that you are dating that you have children because it could push them away from you. Here are some dating tips that will help you jump back into the dating world as a single mom:
Don’t make things complicated for your kids.
You should try to avoid complicating your children’s lives when you start dating again as well as confusing them. Don’t bring every guy you date back home with you unless the guy you are dating is really serious about you and wants to meet your kids. When you go out on dates and have to leave them with a babysitter you should tell them that you are going out with a friend for the night. You don’t have to tell them you’re going out on a date.
Give the men you are dating some time.
When you go on dates with men it’s best not to tell them that you have children on the first couple of dates. It’s best to wait until you two have established some type of relationship to tell them that. It also may take awhile for your boyfriend to get used to the fact that you have kids. Remember to give your boyfriends time! The sudden burden of having to act as a father and help support children can be hard to get used to.
Don’t let guilt stop you from dating.
When you’re a single mom, people left and right will be telling you that you shouldn’t have a life outside of taking care of your kids because they are your first priority. While it may be true that your children are your first priority, you should still be able to have some time to yourself. Don’t feel guilty about going out on dates and leaving your kids at home with a babysitter. Everyone needs some “me” time once in awhile. The more confidant you feel about being able to balance your life between your kids and dating, the more able you will be to attract men.
